I Have No Idea Where I'm Wearing This To But I Bought It...And I Wore It

I spotted this Alexander McQueen skirt with Lily on a random shopping trip.  This skirt happens to be from the pre-autumn-winter 2013-2014 collection.

On the hanger it had zero appeal, to Lily it just looked like a giant stiff piece of wool. But I was like wait til you see it on.  This skirt has a lot of potential.

When I tried it on, it made my waist look super tiny and since the fabric was so stiff, the shape held on its own. Once Lily saw it on, even she had to admit the skirt was super flattering.

So I bought it. Before you think I must make boat loads of money in order to buy a McQueen piece. 1) I purchased this at the  bay l'entrepot (AKA the bay warehouse) and 2) there was an additional 50% off then and additional 25% off my total purchase. It was practically free!

The only problem was, I had no idea where I'm wearing this to but I bought it. I was thinking it may be a potential work x-mas dinner outfit?

I Have No Idea Where I'm Wearing This To But I Bought It

The second post in this series...a little late, because I eventually did wear them (an update post will be posted shortly).  It only took me about 6 months to figure out how to incorporate them into an outfit.

New Year, New Blog Series

Happy New Years!!! 2014 flew by super fast.  Since it's a new year we figured we should introduce a new blog series: "One X item, 2 sisters".  I don't know how frequent this series will be since it depends on the presence of Lily, when she starts school again it maybe bit more difficult.  As sisters, we should be raiding each other closets and sharing our clothes, but we have a small problem.      1) we have completely different styles.  Our mom is always telling Lily to wear my hand me downs, but she absolutely refuses.  Lily is quite selective with my hand me downs.  2) We're not really the same size, therefore there are very few items we can really share.

But there are a few things that we can share, so we figured it would be a fun series to see how we each style the item differently.

Our first blog post will be ..."One Jacket, Two Sisters"

Lily spotted this chevron printed denim jacket from Free People.  I was initially on the fence about it, but this jacket has some how magically made it into my closet.

Ugly X-mas Sweaters

This year during my office holiday pot luck we decided that we should all wear ugly x-mas sweaters. While some of us thought it was a fun idea, others responded with comments like "but I don't want to wear an ugly x-mas sweater, can I wear a cute one instead?", "why does it have to be ugly?" , "I don't want to spend money on an ugly x-mas sweater."

I know the ugly x-mas sweaters are huge in the US, but they have recently started migrating up North.  I have never seen so many stores sell them until this year.  The only problem with buying them in Canada is most ugly X-mas sweaters ranged between $25 and $30, where as in the US, my co-worker was able to pick some up for $10!

I completely understand not wanting to spend $30 on an ugly x-mas sweater, because I was also not willing spend that much on one, so I decided to make mine. But apparently, to some of my co-workers that meant I had an insane amount of free time on my hands!

FYI, I was not weaving the sweater from wool  I just shaved off a sheep.

Update...I Wore It!

Remember when I started a series "I Have No Idea Where I'm Wearing This To But I Bought it", click here for the post.

Well it wasn't so much a series, since so far I only have one post about it, but it will definitely turn into a series once Lily (AKA the photographer) returns from school and the weather warms up!

But just to refresh your memory, this was the outfit I really didn't have any where to wear it to. But I did!

I wore it my first work x-mas party of the season.

Freezing for Prada

A couple of weeks ago, Holts was renovating their Prada store, there was a huge Prada sign covering their store windows.  When I spotted it, I instantly thought this would be a perfect back drop for an OOTD post.

And the timing couldn't have been better, Lily was in town.  The only problem, the day we went to take the pics, it was super windy and bloody cold.  I have no idea how models brave the cold for photo shoots because according to Lily I looked painfully cold in practically all the pics.

What Does One Wear to Comiccon?

A friend had invited me to check out comiccon this year,  I'm not a fanatic about anything comic book related, but have always been curious about it so why not. I'll be brutally honest, compared to the die hard fans who actually show up to comiccon I can't even call myself a fan.  These people live and breath these comics, TV shows, and cartoons.  It was definitely a surreal experience, everyone should at least experience it once in their life.

My biggest dilemma, what to wear? I was already expecting people to be whipping out their costumes.  I just wasn't expecting them to be so elaborated.  That's the one thing I liked about comiccon, it's the one place you could dress up as your favorite character and there would be no comments or judgments.

I on the other hand had no costume. I don't even own any sort of T-shirt with a superhero on it.  If I knew Pikachu was still a thing, I would have borrowed Lily's Pikachu back pack!

So I decided something not too trendy or fashionable would probably be the safest bet.

Happy Halloween..Pseudo Costume

Or in my case a back handed compliment.  Let's rewind shall we...

I don't have a strict dress code at work, it leans on the business casual side, but Fridays are jean Fridays (even though it took about 4 years for my boss to realize we were all wearing jeans on Fridays).  Usually at the start of the work week I'm a little more smartly dressed, as the week goes on my outfits lean more and more to the casual side.

This Friday happened to land on Halloween, we have few new hires who were like "Do you guys dress up for Halloween?" Since I have been there no one has ever dressed up for Halloween, but apparently the newbies were all gun-ho about it.  I basically didn't have time to even think of a costume and decided to forgo the whole costume idea. I basically wore what I usually wear on weekends or casual outings.

Two Sisters Reunited

Reading week just passed for Lily, which means she was back in MTL for about a week and some OOTD post.

For those who don't know what reading week is, it's basically a week off during your semester in University. Some call it Spring break, because back when I was in Uni, reading week was only during the Winter semester; which was when most students bolted to Florida. But for other students, it was  a week to catch up on assignments and study for midterms (i.e reading week). Lily gets the joy of having a reading week in both the Fall and Winter semester.

Summer weather in the Fall

A few weeks ago the weather in Ottawa was really weird. It was extremely hot in the middle of Fall; it felt like Summer came back or it wasn't ready to let the sweater weather take over just yet. Since the sun was shining and the temperature was perfect I decided to take full advantage by wearing my Summer clothes one last time.

Fall jacket

Fall is officially here! It's time to put those denim shorts and muscle tees away and start pulling out fall jackets and cozy fluffy sweaters. In honor of Fall, I decided to pull out my favorite jacket from Free People. I've been wearing this jacket non-stop. It just goes with everything; that's probably why I'm so obsess with it. The jacket has a high-low structure. The front is very simple with two pockets on either side. The back is my favorite part; it has a floral embroidery which doesn't overwhelm the entire back of the jacket. I normally like to wear this jacket with my Forever21 sweater and a pair of black leggings or my grey jeggings from American Eagle. To accessorize the outfit I simple just wore my Forever21 fall hat  (which I'm obsess with as well).

Barbie Legs

I can't believe it's already October.  This may be one of my last OOTD post for a while, since Lily my photographer has gone back to school. Throw in the fact that it's gotten quite cold here in MTL, taking pics maybe slightly problematic.

By the end of this post, you'll completely understand why I titled it Barbie Legs

I was completely having a love affair of short-suits this summer. I had all the necessary items this summer for a short-suit look but I just never had the occasion to pop one on, except for this OOTD post.

Playing in the Rain

When I heard the Red Ball made it's way to Montreal, I definitely wanted to check it out. While waiting for the Red Ball to be installed, why not pass the time taking pics for OOTD posts. Too bad it was just pouring rain that day, so I was only able to snap one OOTD.

Dressing like it's Fall

Yes, I know it's still Summer, but there have been a couple of days where it just felt like Fall especially when you factor in the rain. So I pretty much just dressed like it was Fall.  It's a win-win situation given the fact that my office has no temperature control what so ever. It literally feels like Fall in my office, most of don't even know how to dress anymore.  Do we dress for Summer but freeze all day or dress like it's Fall and sweat once work is done?

My go to outfit when the temperature drops and rain is expected

Ring master

Remember the Britney Spear's Circus video where she dresses up like a ring master.

When I saw it, there was something about the whole ensemble that had me intrigued.  Especially the "ring master" coat. I really wanted one.  Then on one faithful boxing day I spotted the BCBG maxariza noah tail coat, and snapped it up without any hesitation.

Isn't this reminiscent of a ring master's coat?
I actually saw it in red first, but unfortunately they didn't have my size any more, so black it was. Which in the end was probably a better choice since it's a lot easier to work into my wardrobe.

Rompers & Pineapples

In my "I'm having a Romper moment" post I had mentioned that I'm completely having a thing for rompers this summer.  Well,  here is romper #2.

I Have No Idea Where I'm Wearing This To But I Bought it

Often when I'm shopping with Lily or CW, when I find something that catches my eye, they would instantaneously reply "oh, that's nice, but where are you going with that?".

I'm pretty sure I am not the only girl who has solely purchased something because I just loved it.  Since I'm not a crazy nite life kinda of gal nor is my social calendar packed full of events, these purchases often just sit in my closet. I often try to justify the purchase by figuring out some way to wear it work. But sometimes, it just really not appropriate for work and I'm really just pushing the limits of the lax dress code.

So why not spin it off into a blog series that I'll call "I have no idea where I'm wearing this to but I bought it"

First purchase the Elizabeth and James Jill Peplum top

Not only do we love that the bare neckline on this Elizabeth and James Jill Strapless Peplum Top ($395) is the perfect place to show off our favorite baubles; we love that the figure-flattering A-line shape will fit even after we've indulged in any holiday party treats.

Mastering the Art of Walking in a Maxi Skirt

I spotted this skirt at Club Monaco and I knew I wanted. The vibrant color was one of my favorite, the pleats were an added bonus(I luv pleats), and the uneven hemline made it a little edgy.

Sister-Sister Event #1 of 2014

2013 was crammed packed with sister-sister events, 2014 the sister-sister events have calmed down quite a bit (my wallet was definitely grateful for the break!).  I don't think we would have had any sister-sister concert events in 2014 if this wasn't re-scheduled.

Two Toned

Color blocking has been around for the last couple of seasons, although sometimes I think color blocking can look like they ran out fabric while sewing.   You all know what I mean.  I never thought I would end up with a pair of color blocked pants.  But I think it was the way that these pants were colored blocked that had me sold.

The color blocking looked intentional, from the front they look like a pair of cobalt blue pants
